Refrigerator Maintenance Tips - Appliance Care For Better Efficiency

!±8± Refrigerator Maintenance Tips - Appliance Care For Better Efficiency

Your refrigerator is constantly in use. It is plugged to the electrical outlet 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because it is constantly working, it wears out fast.

One way to make your fridge more efficient and more reliable is to maintain it regularly. How do you do that? Here are some tips that can help you prolong the life of your refrigerator.

Tip 1: At least once a month, unplug your fridge and clean the exhaust coils at the back of the machine. Dust and cob webs can collect on the coils and this might prevent the machine from exhausting hot air outside. That being said, the fridge might work harder in lowering the temperature inside. It consumes more energy.

Clean the fridge. Use a soft-bristled brush to get rid of cob webs. The modern refrigerators today have closed coil structure. Check the manual to find out where you can find the coils and where you can gain access to them.

Tip 2: Regularly clean the interior of the fridge. Bacteria can still grow in there especially in between temperatures that considered "danger zone". If there are spills, immediately wipe the spills away. Remove stains and spills as well as they can turn hard and crusty. They can stain the interior of the machine as well.

Get rid of stale food and remove dishes and boxes that do not contain anything. They only take up a lot of space inside the fridge and they might make the machine work harder.

Tip 3: Clean the door edges of the machine and make sure that the door can close perfectly so that air will not escape. Avoid slamming the refrigerator door. Most fridge door mechanisms are connected to the lighting inside the machine. Slamming the door can damage the connection to the light.

Tell your kids not to play with the fridge. Frequently opening and closing the door can speed up the deterioration of the appliance. This also allows the escape of cold air, prompting the machine to use up more energy to lessen temperature.

Tip 4: Do not use sharp objects to remove ice or scrape crusty stains. To remove ice, unplug the machine and open the ice compartment. Ice will eventually melt so you can remove it better. For stains, remove them using dishwashing soap. Apply it on the stained areas and let the soap loosen up the crusty stains. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

Will Stainless Steel Kitchen Appliances Suit My Kitchen?

!±8± Will Stainless Steel Kitchen Appliances Suit My Kitchen?

Stainless steel is convenient and easy to clean, but you may be afraid that in choosing stainless steel, you will lose the character of your kitchen. It does not stain, corrode or rust as easily as ordinary steel. Stainless basically means that it 'stains less' not that it is stain proof, so do not think that no matter what falls on it, it will not stain. This is not the case. But it is far more resistant than many other materials used in domestic appliances.

There are different grades and surface finishes of this material to suit the environment to which the material will be subjected in its lifetime. Common uses other than in kitchen appliances are in cutlery and watch straps. Stainless steel is also less prone to corrosion and rust than many other types of finish. This is because it has a sufficient amount of chromium present so that a passive film of chromium oxide forms, which prevents further corrosion.

Stainless steel's resistance to corrosion and staining, its low maintenance and relative cost effectiveness make it an ideal base material for a host of commercial applications and domestic appliances. Added to the fact that it is 100% recyclable, the advantages of over black or white models do seem to be pretty high in number. In fact, an average appliance in the form is composed of around 60% recycled material, 25% originating from end-of-life products and around 35% coming from manufacturing processes.

Another of the main benefits as regards style of a stainless steel kitchen is that it is easy to find kitchen appliances that match each other so co-ordinating a kitchen is made far easier. A stainless steel themed kitchen also has a modern feel to it and because it is easier to clean than a lot of other finishes and does not corrode easily it looks smarter and newer for longer.

Most manufacturers provide kitchen appliances in this finish including AEG, Electrolux, Zanussi, Neff, Hotpoint, Bosch, Tecnik, Maytag, Smeg and others. They usually offer a range of styles and a choice of matching appliances so that your kitchen is coordinated.

A problem with stainless steel is that it is not to everybody's taste. It can look cold, sterilised and impersonal, which is fine in a professional or ultra modern kitchen, but for a traditional kitchen, is not the feel that you are usually going for. But a lot of the time, the mood of your kitchen is defined more by how you mix the types of cupboards and the colours of other features in your kitchen with these kitchen appliances.

Stainless steel will look more attractive if your cupboards are made up of warm colours and dark woods. For a modern looking kitchen, light wood looks great with light fresh colours with stainless steel appliances. But of course, if you have your heart set on glossy cupboards and high shine ultra modern doors, the steel will begin to make the kitchen look impersonal, so choose carefully to achieve the look that you are really after in your home.
